Knight Frank’s Australian Healthcare & Life Sciences team are hosting a Life Sciences Study Tour in the UK this week, with attendees to visit sites across four locations in the Golden Triangle to learn more about the sector, which continues to grow in Australia.
The tour, which runs from May 12 to May 17, is designed to provide a comprehensive and insightful experience for the 11 attendees, allowing them to gain invaluable knowledge from leading experts and benchmark against the UK’s top Life Sciences institutions and innovation precincts.
In addition to site visits to explore existing and emerging Life Sciences hubs in London, Cambridge, Stevenage and Oxford, the tour includes ‘behind the scenes’ presentations and networking opportunities.
It kicked off with a canape reception and networking session at Knight Frank’s Baker Street Office in London.
Knight Frank delegates on the tour include Sam Biggins, National Head of Healthcare and Life Sciences in Australia; Lawson Katiza, Life Sciences, Healthcare and Consulting Queensland; Emma Goodford, Department Head, Life Sciences and Innovation, United Kingdom; and Sarah Clark, Associate Director, National Service Line Marketing in Australia.
Mr Katiza said the study tour would help attendees to understand the key factors driving success in the Life Sciences sector in the UK so it could be applied to the Australian market.
“We will study successful governance models, value propositions, precinct development, funding mechanisms and industry-academic collaborations in established and emerging Life Sciences hubs in the UK’s ‘Golden Triangle’,” he said.
“This will enable us to identify transferable lessons to inform the growth and development of Australia's Life Sciences sector.”
Mr Biggins said there was strong demand for investment in Australia’s Life Sciences sector, and plenty of potential for growth.
“In Australia, Life Sciences is still an emerging asset class in comparison to other global markets such as the UK, USA and Asia, where there is a deeper pool of investment-grade assets and established venture capital ecosystems to drive research growth.
“However, there is significant investor interest in the sector in Australia.
“Investors are generally seeking greater diversification into alternative sectors, and Life Sciences and Healthcare real estate remain sought after given the demographic trends and associated rising demand for services.
“This study tour will help Knight Frank and our attending clients identify the best practices being applied to establish and grow leading innovation precincts in this space, and to help them get ahead of the curve in this emerging sector.”
