Melbourne’s premier retail destinations are getting a much needed boost with a new concept breathing new life into some of Melbourne’s leading shopping strips.
Hawker Spaces is a new concept where businesses can licence and fitout retail space for as little as three days to launch and test new products and concepts. Prices start from $2,999 plus GST.
The service offers website design functionality allowing clients to customise the layout of space as well as personalised signage, imagery, videos and playlist to enhance customer experience.
Hawker Spaces founder, Monty Hanger created the concept less than a year ago as a way to address the rising vacancies in some of the city’s premier retail strips.
“Since launching, they have hosted major brand names including New York-based lipstick dynamo, Poppy King, South.St, Peloton, 7-Eleven, Virgin and A Brand, to name a few.
“We launched in November last year with 30 plus leading brands booking our South Yarra and Fitzroy spaces.
“Hawker Spaces supplies retail and activation spaces in high traffic retail precincts for clients to use to help boost their brand.
“Hawker Spaces provides a place where not only can retailers showcase their products, but brands can create activation spaces for anything from product launches to bespoke events, without being weighed down with the plethora of expenses that come hand-in-hand with long-term leases.
“The product includes six large, ultra-bright two metre high HD digital screens integrated into side walls, retail furniture to choose from and even mannequins, clothing racks and counters. There’s an analytics people counter and heat map technology to provide invaluable insights into customer behaviour, allowing clients to make data-driven decisions,” he said.
Hanger said, they've now had multiple brands including 2XU, Lood, Eva, Nicole Angela and R.Corporation book for a second or third time which is a great sign and the reason we just launched our subscription model.
“The feedback from clients is they love the idea of subscribing to a set number of weeks across our network of spaces and the more spaces we open the more attractive the subscription model becomes.
“Hawker Spaces is flexible and provides an integrated tech platform and furniture templates allowing tenants to create their own brand and customer experience.
“Our technology and flexible licence solutions will fill the void that successful eCommerce brands need. After experiencing the huge success of our flagship space on Chapel St, South Yarra hosting clients such as 2XU, St Cloud, Abrand, Ciele and Daily Blooms, we’ve just launched our second space on Brunswick Street in Fitzroy
“We only have a few weeks across both our spaces available this year as they are filling quickly.”
2XU Head of Wholesale and Retail, Guy Cooper said they experienced really healthy traffic numbers when renting the Chapel Street Hawker Spaces site earlier this year achieving sales 108 per cent above target.
The spaces are located at 565 Chapel Street, South Yarra and 181 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy.
